Mr. Sanjay Dalmia, Chairman of the Dalmia Group of Companies, is a pioneer who had the vision and courage to get away from the beaten track and create institutions through vision, risk and initiative which today influences not only the immediate community but the country at large. Mr. Sanjay Dalmia has attracted the attention of both corporate analysts and investors not only for the scale of his new investments but also for his continued, progressive and innovative contributions to industry and business. His vision aims at creating industries which will not only provide employment and create wealth but make a positive difference to society and environment. Always seeking out new areas of operation, his ventures include, textiles, industrial chemicals, industrial explosives, and healthcare which more recently extends towards life style improvement products. The prestigious International Corporate Sector Gold Award 1987 was conferred upon him for his impact on industries. Today he is amongst those pillars of Industrial India that is leading the country into a definite leadership positions in the 21st century.

Mr. Dalmia was born in Lahore in 1944, and schooled at one of India’s premier Public Schools. Thereafter he graduated with Economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University. He actively participates in seminars and conferences conducted by national and international agencies on banking, finance, taxation and industrial developments with particular reference to applicability to the Indian environment. He has been actively associated with keystone trade organizations including PHD Chamber of Commerce and FICCI - Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. He has also, from time to time, been on the board of premier banks.

His busy involvement with industrial projects notwithstanding, Mr. Sanjay Dalmia finds time to actively participate in various civic and welfare activities. The reach and quality of literary education being a premier concern, he is a member on the Board of Trustees of the Indian Literary Society and other educational institutions. He is actively involved in various Social/Charitable organizations; “Masoom”- School for the economically weaker section of society is an example. Since the inception of Masoom, he spends his birthday with these children. Other social programs include providing safe drinking water to the people of Chirawa (Rajasthan); organizing medical check up camps for Asthma Patients, eye check up camps, etc for the poor and needy in Rajasthan.

Driven by his deep and total commitment to communal harmony, national unity and international understanding, the "Organisation of Understanding and Fraternity(OUF)" was founded under his Chairmanship and patronage. While many historical symposia and seminars go to the credit of the Organisation, the most important of all these achievements is the institution of `Harmony Awards’ given every year to those journalists and social workers, whose contribution to the cause of communal harmony is considered significant. Actively promoting Indo-Pak amity, it is Mr. Sanjay Dalmia’s dream to see both these nations reunited.

This dynamic Industrialist, was a member of the Rajya Sabha(Upper House of Parliament). During his tenure, he raised many important issues relating to finance and economy. Making a significant contribution to the cause of National Integration and International understanding, his aim continues to be a constructive-link between the Government and the Industry and work for the overall economic development of the country.
