With a State-Of-Art Plant at Gujarat and a soda ash
acquisition being modernized and revamped on a war footing
in Romania, GHCL intends to be a prominent player in
the world of Soda Ash. The product is an essential ingredient
in the manufacture of detergent, soap, glass, sodium
salts and dyes. It is widely used in textiles, paper,
metallurgical industries and desalination plants.
In India, GHCL is among the top three producers of
soda ash. Located along the coastline of Saurashtra
Region, within Gujarat, India, the State-Of-Art Plant
has a production capacity of 600000 MT per annum, with
an expansion capacity of 1,100,000 MT per annum being
worked at. This accounts for 32% of the market share
in India.
The plant has been setup with technical know-how from
M/s. AKZO Nobel BV, Netherlands, and was the first to
use the ‘most energy efficient Dry Liming technology’
with an Award for absorption of Novel and Complex technology
by ICMA in the year 1993.
In India, GHCL's Soda Ash manufacturing facility is
the first to get an ISO 14001 along with ISO 9001-2000,
and OHSAS–18000 certificates. The division has
institutionalized systems and procedures of TQM in all
functional areas and has an excellent safety record
with 5 Star Rating from British Safety Council.
